The Story Behind Vitals
Vitals started the way many good tools do—out of frustration. As a pastor, I needed a better way to understand the health of our church. What I built for one congregation has grown into a platform serving churches across the country.
Born from a Real Need
Like most pastors, I was juggling spreadsheets, Planning Center reports, and YouTube analytics just to understand how our church was doing. Every Monday felt like a data scavenger hunt instead of a time to reflect on ministry. I needed a single place to see the full picture of our church's health—not just Sunday morning headcounts, but giving trends, volunteer engagement, online reach, group participation, and the factors that explain the story behind the numbers.
Building What Didn't Exist
I looked everywhere for a tool that could pull together attendance, giving, digital engagement, and volunteer data into one clear dashboard. Nothing existed that was designed for the way pastors actually think about church health. So I started building it—first as a simple internal tool for our own church, designed around the questions our leadership team was actually asking every week.
Churches Started Asking
Other churches in our area saw what we were using in leadership meetings and started asking about it. Pastors wanted the same clarity for their own congregations. What began as a personal project became something we shared with a handful of local churches. Their feedback shaped Vitals into something that works for churches of all sizes—from church plants to multi-campus organizations.
